MILITARY NOTES.

THE HAURAKI REGIMENT. Cadet Medical Examination. Next month the medical examination will take place of all Cadets born in 1911, and therefore of age for posting to the Territorials. Owing to more coming forward than are necessary the physical standard required in a territorial is now very high. Those presenting themselves for medical examination will be sorted out into seven categories, and only boys with the best physique will be accepted for service. Posting will commence at Paeroa on May 20, and last until May 25. Territorials who have completed their period of service will be posted to the reserve. The N.Z. Gazette announces: Lieut. W. L. N. Lawrence, Ist battalion, is transferred to the reserve of officers, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, Class 1(b) — dated March 22, 1929. The undermentioned are posted to the Retired List, with permission to retain their rank and wear the prescribed uniform : Major E. Edwards, Captain R. N. Morpeth, Captain G. A. Bush, and Lieutenant W. A. Bennett —dated February 1, 1929. SecondLieutenant J. Cartwright is retired — dated February 1, 1929. Anzac Day. A roll, in connection with Anzac Day, is being compiled at the Defence Office of returned soldiers in the district. So far 62 are registered, and Lieutenant V. J. Innes, N.Z.S.C., will be pleased to receive further’ names. Shooting. The annual weapon training course will finish at the end of May. The best shooting company will be awarded the Kenny Cup, for the first time in competition since 1911, and the best individual shot will receive the Bradford Belt, together with an engraved German shellcase as a personal trophy. Peace Establishment Altered. Orders have been issued announcing the alteration of the present peace establishment of infantry regiments from four rifle companies to three rifle companies and one machine gun company. The machinegun company will consist of company headquarters and four sections armed with four machine-guns each. Rifle companies remain as before. The necessary reorganisation will take place at the annual posting in June. WAIKATO MOUNTED RIFLES. Twenty-three officers and 282 other ranks of the Waikato Mounted Rifles arc in camp at Ngaruawahia. Their mounts number 300 of a fine stamp of horse. Hotchkiss-gun firing is taking place over the new course.
