BALL AT TURUA.

HUMPTY DUMPTY’S HILARITY.

A NOVEL FUNCTION.

“Humpty Dumpty” invited 500 people to his dance in the Turua Hall last Thursday evening, and, sitting on a brick wall on the Stage while the rain pounded on the iron roof, above, in an effort to drown the music, of the “K” Boys’ orchestra:, he watched about 250 dancers revel at the gayest function of the season.

Confetti, spraying streamers, the squeaking of countless; whistles, infectious roars of laughter, the weird syncopation of the, danc.e music floating from a bower of ferns, and the novel decorative all tended to break down barriers of shyness and reserve. It was youth, casting and joining in an hilarious but decorous frolic.

It was a brilliant setting for the sc.ene. Mrs. L.‘ Young evolved the scheme, and 1 Mrs J. H. Johnston supplied the flowers. Even Humpty Dumpty’s wall had ivy clinging to it, and to make, the impression even more) realistic snail® had been placed on the ivy. Paper streamers suspended across the, c.eiling and down the walls with their brilliant colours reflected in. the gleaming floor, made the hall a veritable kaleidoscope. Even the supper room was a triumph to the skill and originality of the decorators, but here scenery alone was insufficient, anti Misses Mules, (2), Madgwick, Dixon, Griffiths, and Gray sa.w to it that no one went away unsatisfied.

“Humpty Dumpty” had many willing assistants, and it is suspected that many of them are members of the Turua Tennis Club, for on this occasion -he voted the proceeds to that body. Other Turua organisations will benefit fr.om future, efforts if the weatlrey is more kindly.
