PAEROA CLUB’S MEETING. A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. There was a fair attendance at the annual meeting of the Paeroa Golf Club on Thursday evening, despite the inclemency of the weather. Mr A. F. Steedman (president) occupied the chair. Report and Balance-Sheet. The annual report and balancesheet, which was adopted, was read as follows :— “Membership.— The membership shows an increase of two over the previous year, and is now 71, of whom 27 are men and 33 lady players, and 11 non-players. Of the latter 10 are ladies and one is a man. Three lady players and three men players have left the district and two lady nonplayers have resigned. “Finance. —The Club commenced its season with a credit balance of £2O 18s and closed with a credit balance of £33 17s 3d. The sum of £lO has been written off as not recoverable. This is partly caused by members failing to notify the secretary of their wish to be placed on the non-playing list. The subscriptions show an increase of £2l over the previous year. “The assets are about the same as last year, namely, £124 9s lid. They have been written down where necessary.
“Expenditure.—This has been quite normal, as no new- assets have been acquired during the season. Mr Norris Bell acted as coach during June and August, his expenses, amounting to £B, being paid by the club. Mr Bell’s services are available this year during May, and again during August.
“Links and Greens.—During the greater portion of the season the greens were in better condition than foi' some years. Arrangements have been made for an early cutting, and it is proposed to sand and top-dress immediately. The fairways played well last year, and if training operations do not cut up the ground they should be in very good order this season.
“Social. —During the year several social evenings were organised by the ladies’ committee. These proved most successful and' enjoyable, and the ladies have the Committee’s thanks for developing this side of the Club’s activities.
“Matches.—Owing to unfavourable weather, arrangements for outside matches proved a difficult matter. A match was played against Tauranga on their links, and resulted in a rather decided loss ; but the return match oh the local links resulted in a draw. “Club matches were won as follows : Men’s Club Handicap, H. Bray; Men’s Bogey Handicap, T. Moresby ; Men’s Monthly Medals, Hubbard (twice), Bray (twice), Moresby, and Surrey. Ladies’ Club Championship, Mrs Bray; Ladies’ Club Handicap, Mrs Bray ; Ladies’ L.G.U. Silver Medal, Mrs Miller; Ladies’ L.G.U. Bronze Medal, Miss L. Thorp; Ladies’ Monthly Medals, Miss Thorp (twice), Mrs Bray (twice), Mrs Miller, Miss Masters, and Miss Walmsley.
“Thanks.—The thanks of the Club is due to the Ohinemuri Jockey Club for the use of the club dining-room and other accessories during the year; to the ladies, for assistance with afternoon teas, and club matters generally ; to the proprietors of the Hauraki Plains Gazette, for publishing the results of the matches ; and to Mr E. Shaw, for his courtesy arid assistance.” The balance-sheet showed the fees from men members amounted to £7O 10s and from ladies £62. Outstanding fees recovered totalled £2O Bs, and sundry amounts £ll 18s 9d, which, together with a credit of- £2O: 18s from last season, made a total of £lB5 14s 9d.
The chief items of expenditure were cutting greens, etc., £56 10s 6d ; tea money, £2O 15s 9d ; coach, £2l 12s ; rent, £lO ; entertainment, medals, and general expenses, £34 19s 3d ; cleaning drains, £3 13s ; affiliation fees, £4 7s ; leaving a balance of £33 17s 3d. The liabilities of the club were nil, while the assets showed a total of £124 9s lid, the chief items being, credit in National Bank, £33 17s 3d ; Sayings Bank, £53 7s 8d; rollers, lawn-mower, and gear, £35 5s outstanding subscriptions, £2. ■' Election of Officers. ./ The following officers were elected for the ensuing year :— President, Mr A.
