TOWN BOARD’S ACTION.

RETIRING PLAINS COUNCILLORS.

In adition to placing on record its appreciation and thanks to the Hauraki Plains County Council for its assistance during the past three years the Turua' To.wn Board, at its monthly meeting on Wednesday last, decided that personal letters be .sent to Cr. E. L. Walton, c.ounty chairman, and to C l ’. J. C- Miller, who in the early days prior to the alteration of riding boundaries, represented Turua. Accordingly, letters were drafted and signed by all members of. the Towin Board. ‘ ' Mr Walton’s letter was as follows:—

“We, the undersigned, being members of the; Turua Town Board, regret to hear that it is your intention to retire from the chairmanship of the Hauraki Plains County. Council. “We wish to thank and express to you our high appreciation of what you have accomplished during ypur terms of offic.e as Clerk and Chairman of the Hauraki Plains County Council since its inception.

“We have practically all resided here since before the formation of the present County, and very keenly appreciate the work done for the dis-: trict and thank and congratulate you on the important part you havq playin bringing about such improvements, and alspi desire to expressly thank you for the kindness, consideration, and assistance you have always been ready to extend to the Turua To,wax Board since its formation.” The letter to Mr Miller read: —

“Wq, the undersigned, being members df the Turua Town Board, regret to hqa> that it is your intention to retire from the Hauraki Plains County Council and'take this opportunitjto thank , you for the work yclu have done for the betterment of the Hauraki Plains. We are all old settlers and vividly rqmember the almost .impossible conditions of a few years ago. We thank and congratulate you on the very fine part you have taken in bringing the Hauraki Plains to its present state of efficiency. Also we wish to thank you for your assistance in furthering thq interests of the TOwn Board.”
