THE SCHOONER MIRO.
ARRIVAL AT PAEROA
A SMART VESSEL.
An arrival at the Northern Co.’s wharf on Sunday was the auxiliary schooner Miro, fully laden with explosives for the Waihi mines and foi’ local use This vessel is the smallest unit of Nobel’s Explosives, Ltd., fleet of schooners, the other's being the well-known inter-colonial traders Piri and Hulia. The name of the “Huia” has gone down in nautical history for all time as the sailing vessel making the fastest voyage on record from Australia to New Zealand, a passage that has not been equalled by many steamers outsole of mail liners. In fact, in her palmy speed days she was in the habit of overhauling and passing steamboats. Since then auxiliary engines have been installed in the “Huia,” an innovation that has reduced her sailing speed considerably. Whilst the “Piri” and “Huia” are constantly engaged in deep-water trade, the “Miro” confines, her voyages purely to the New Zealand coast. In appearance she resembles more a yacht than a prosaic caygo-carrying vessel, although, of coui.-se, the term “prosaic” can hardly be applied to any sailing ship, and she has the smart and clean leak typical of Nobels vessels.
The “Miro” sails to-day for Auckland, where she will, load cargo for New Plymouth, NeJson, Wellington, and Dunedin.
