The Turua Tennis Club’s senior grade team had little difficulty in withstanding the only challenge received this season for the Howell Williams Memorial Shield, and beat the Ngatea Club’s team on Saturday by ten sets to three. Following are the scores, the names of the Turua players being given first:— F. C. Robinson beat E. Coppins, 9—5; Dr. Miller beat S. Coppins, 9—6 ;F. Shepherd lost to A. Morgan, 8 — 9 ; A. McConnell beat L. Cotter, 9—

Ladies Singles.— Miss Griffiths beat Mrs Bertelsen, 7—5 ; Miss Dixon beat Mrs Jackson, 7—3. . Men’s Doubles.—Robinson and Miller lost to Coppins and Coppins, 5—9; Shepherd and McConnell lost to Morgan and Cotter, B—98 —9 ; C. Scott and H. Griffiths beat E. Alexander and H.. Hayward, 9—7.

Ladies’ Doubles.—Misses Griffiths and Dixon beat Mrs Bertelsen and Mrs Jackson, 7—5 ; Mrs Clotworthy and Miss, Green beat Mrs Cotter and Miss Chatfield, 7—2. Combined Doubles.—C.
