PLAINS DRAINAGE.
HAURAKI WEST AREA. meeting of board. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board held its monthly meeting in Mr E. L. Walton’s office, Ngatea, on Thursday, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Mcpsrs T. A. McClean, A. Doug-, las, and J. Motion. The clerk (Mr E1.. Walton) and the foreman (Mr E. rlavell) were in attendance. Mr. A. H. McClean was granted leave of absence. FINANCIAL POSITION. A financial statement presented by tlie clerk showed that rates collected to the end of the financial year totalled £690 15s id, contractors’ deposits received £33 5s 6d and exchange 2s, making a total of £724 2s 7d. Payments made totalled £398 16s Id 1 , leaving a balance at March 31 0f £>2s 6s. Particulars of bank interest and charges were not to hand, and had not been included, but the amounts would' be small. The total rates struck amounted to £1329 4s 2d, of which £7OB 10s Id had' been collected, leaving £620 14s Id outstandinng, which, together with the credit balance at April 4 ptf £322 is, made the assets £942 15s. Id- Contracts amounting to about £l2OO had been let and were not yet. paid. The amount of overdraft which could be made available this financial year was approximately £lOOO, but this must bq reduced by the end of the year, so as not to exceed tne amount of outstanding rates, less outstandh'ng accounts. i’UHANGA ROAD DRAIN. Mrs M. G. M. Duddir.g, Puhanga, Ngatea, wrote urgjng that the board maintain the drain between her two Factions and the continuation between the farms of Messrs Marchant and Baxter, as it was the only •olutlet for the back of the farm. The wiiter* also urged that attention he given the Canal Road drain. It. was agreed to provide a good outlet by improving, the Caiial Read drain. OBJECTIONS TO CLASSIFICATION. Objections to the classification of their land as “A,” on the grounds that their drainage was inefficient and incomplete, were received from Hopai Rafail settlers, Messrs D. A. Waite, L. M, Murray, M. 'Williams, anjl F. H. Brocklehurst. These were considered in d&mmiiUK', and on standing orders being resumed a few minutes later the clerk was instructed by resolution to inquire from the cloth at. the Magistrates Court, Thames, whether the sfittlers had lodged abjections with him. FOREMAN’S REPORT. Thq foreman, Mr E. Flffvcll, reported'tliat the following contrac ts were completed: Puhanga Island roadside drains, Rawe;t«wc Road, north side; Paul’s outlet, HOpui Road, both sides.; and School Road, pipiroa. Rawerawe Road from Coppins’ corner to Jones’ would be finisheil in about ten days, A start had beep made on Settlers’ Drain and Marshall’s Road drain, Pipiroa. Good progress was being made by other contractors, and the cleaning work was we’ll in haqd. ACCOUNTS. I’rogicss payments made, tm contractors during, the month, amounting to £ll9, were •.onfirmed, and accounts totalling £76 7s lid were passed for payment. NEW WORKS. It was decided to call tenders for cleaning the Ngatea-Ra,w.e ; rawe i roadside drain from T. Leonard’s boundary to G. T. Davidfcon’s boundary ; for improving the Puhanga Canal road drain ; for improving, the drain on Me srs McClean-Marchant’si boundary ; and improving Phillips’ Road drain.
