COUNTY ELECTIONS.

PLAINS COUNTY MEMBERS

PROSPECTIVE CANDIDATES. I Although the triennial elections of local body members is only about a month, off, little interest is being show-n in the matter by Hauraki Plains "electors. Nominations close at noon on April 26. Crs. E. L. Walton and J. C. Miller have definitely decided to retire from the County Council, but it is understood that all the other members arc again offering their services. Up to the present the only candidate ■ definitely announced is Mr H. Dent, who offered himself for the Ngatea riding.* Mr E. Cowdrey, of Kaihere, is mentioned as a probable opponent. Both Messrs D. J. O’Carroll and J. Law have been mentioned as the next representative for the Kopuarahi riding, but it is very unlikely that an election will take place. Mr F. J. Mayn, of Patetonga, will be opposed by Mr W. Phillips, of Ngatea, who has consent-;1 to a request by a deputation of Patetonga settlers to offer His services. Mr Phillips has a farm in Patetonga.

With the possible exception of the Horahia riding - , where, so rumour has it, Mr J. W. Treadaway will oppose Cr. I-I. H. Hicks, the indications are that the sitting mehibers will be returned unopposed. The county representatives o.i the Thames Hospital Board, Messrs W. E. Hale, E. L. Walton, and C. W. Parfitt, have not yet yet announced whether they will again be candidates, but it is expected that they will not wish to withdraw, in which case an election is very unlikely. Mr W. E. G. Willy has announced his retirement from the .Thames I alley Electric Power Board, and, as far as can be gathered, no one has come forward for the position. A good man is requested, as the board's business in the county is an extensive or.e. On the Thames Harb air Board Hauraki Plains shares with Thames County in electing three representatives. At present Mr S. J. Laughlin, of Netherton, is the only Hauraki Plains man on the board, and will; harbour affairs in their present condition it is improbable that volunteers will come forward to relieve the Thames County representatives of their share of the problem.
