DELAYS OF EXPRESSES.
ATTEMPT TO PREVENT THEM. NEW METHODS PROPOSED. New methods of train control, dqsigned to reduce delays of the expresses, are ahciit •to be introduced by the Railway Department. Mi’ GG. Stewart, officer in c.harge of the, railway publicity bi’a.nch, stated beturning to Wellington that it is intended to arrange the crossing of trains from central control office, which will tend to prevent loca] decisions upsetting thq haixdlixig of principal trains. The system was the latest employed abroa.d! but would need to be adapted to Ne>x Zealand conditions.
Other imprcvemc.nts which should facilitate a speqdier handling of expresses include the duplication of the main line between Horotiu and Frankton and the construction of two ne>w sidings, one between Mqrcer and Whangamarino and another in the Ohakune district. -
