Building permits to the value of £1325, including two dwellings, were granted at last night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council. The drawing of prizes in connection with the Catholic art union has been postponed, and will take place on Wednesday, April 3.

The two tiger cubs born at the Auckland zoo on January 14 died last week-end. The -Mayor, Mr G. Baildbnsaid on Tuesday that a post mortem examination had revealed that death was due to a disease akin to pneumonia.
The New Guinea Goldmining Syndicate has bought one of the fastest and most powerful Imperial Airways liners for the transport of gold. The machine is capable -of carrying two tons, and' it is estimated to take one hour to do a journey now occupying a week.
The Finance Committee reported at last night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Counc.il that during the month the revenue ip the district fund account amountejd to £4Bl 9s 9d and the expenditure to £1094 14' 9d. After the payment of current accounts the credit balance would be £722 17s 6d. The expenditure of l. oan moneys during the month comprised £79 18s. 4d from the sewerage loan account and £5B Ils 8d from the, water improvements loan account.
According to the Hon. W. A. Veitch, Minister of Mines, in the ■month of November, 1921, the late Government decided to limit the assistance for prospecting to those engaged in prospecting for gold. Recognising that this has to some extent hampered mining, th-e present Government h.as decided to Extend the scope of the assistance for prospecting to include al) minerals. Each application will, of course, be judged on its merits.
