HOCKEY.
LAST YEAR’S ACTIVITIES. REPORT TO PAEROA MEETING. The following annual report,, showing tiie club’s activities during, the past season, was adopted at the meeting of the Paeroa La.dies’ Hockey Club held on Wednesday last: — MEMBERSHIP. “At the beginning of the season the club consisted of 14 members. Nine new members joined during the ensuing sejason and a B team was formed. affiliation. “It was agreed that the club should affiliate with the Piako Hockey Association. The trophy for ivhic.li we played was a shield', and after a series of closely contested matches Te Aroha succeeded in beating; us in the final rutted, thus winning the; trophy. REPRESEN TAT IVES. “The following were selected fro lll the club to play in the Piako team which travelled to Auckland to take part in the Country Week tournament: Misses V. Shand (capt.) A. O’Neill, N. Finnic,. P. Pivott, E. Bell, and M. Hartley. The; piako Association a.lso sent two. repiesentative teams, to Hamilton on June 3 to play In the seven-aside tournament, the following Paeroa players being selected : Misses V. Shand, ]?. Pivott, B. Gibb, N. Finnic, and A. O’Ncjll. The A team were runners-up in this tournament. “A representative team was chosen to play the Tauranga team at Tauranga, and after a closely contested game Tauranga, won by 2 goals to 1. DANCES. “A dance was held in the soldiers' Club and' was a great success. A picture benefit wasi also given which helped the club considerably. Towards the end of. the season a dance was. held in conjunction with the East Football Chib, but was not a grept success financially. THANKS 1 . “The thanks of the e.lub are due to Mrs Finnic, who has presented, a hcekey stick for the most improved new player during the season. It. has not yet been decided who will be; the recipient of this trophy. Quite a lot of the new players were very keen, and it should prove a rather difficult matter to decide ; .to Mrs Shand, for the afternoon tea provided at her home during the early part of the season ; to the Paeora, Rugby Union, for its co-operation in the matter of the playing ground and' donations tiolwards travelling expenses of the club ; to all who helped to make the dances successful ; to Mr W. L. Lawrence, for the help he 'ha.s rendered the qlub ; to Lieutenant who was mainly responsible for our dance held in the Soldiers’ Club being a success by granting leave to the territorials who were in camp at that time; to Mr Jqnnings, who helped our funds by granting a benefit picture night ; to Mr L. Mahon, for acting as referee ; to the Rev. W. G. H. Weaden, foir acting as coach and) referee ; to those who marked out the;i3laying fields and erected goalposts, etc., and to all others who helpc’d the club by donations and in other ways ; and te| Mr Finnic, who ac.ted as selector. PRESENTATION. “A presentation of a smoker's stand was made to the president, l\fr 'W. L-Lawrc-n c, by the members of the club. Regyet was expressed at losing such an interested member of the club.”
