HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

MEETING OF WEST BOARD. The Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board held its monthly meeting, in Mr Walton’s office, Ngatea, on- Wednesday evening, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs. A. H. McClean, J. -Motion, A. Douglas, an.l T. A. McClean. The clerk (Mr E. L. Walton), and the foreman (Mr E. Flavell) were, in attendance. CONTRACTS LET. The chairman reported having let ten diainage contracts, as, previously reported, and his action wa,s confirmed. Mr T. MeClca.n reported having, let a contract to Mr C. Douglas for clearing the Pu.hanga Island drains, and his action was confirmed. The tender of Mr J. E; Reid', Ngatea for altering two at Waitakaxuru was accepted. Contract No. 4, Pipiroa, to Donaghy’s outlet was left to J- Ivan, and contract No. 5, Waitakaruru to Donaghy’s, to C. Clark.

It was decided to call tenders for the cutting and' removing of the elaea.gnus hedge from the Settler’s drain, the; chairman and Mr Motion being authorised to deal with the tenders FENCING DRAINS. It was decided that. Mr James Leonard be notified that unless he fenced the drain on his southern boundary and; repaired the damage; done to the drain by his stock, the board would not. consider taking over any part of the drain. Hauraki 'Motors Ltd., Ngatea, were .granted permission to. ins.tal a 4-foc.t culvert in the drain on its frontage. HOPAI FLOODING. A letter .was received from Messrs. D. A. Waite, L. M. Murray, M. Williams, and F H. Broc-kelhurst noting -tha.t the board was negotiating with the Lands Drainagp Department in regard to the water from the bmk country, but drawing attention to tlie fact t.liat the flooding oftheir land wa:< not entirely due tothis but more to local rainfall, which could not. get away at, high tide;, though the drain emptied when the tide wont out. The; clearing of the outlet, drain would; exaggerate rather than relieve this difficulty, and the extra floodgate would be of na use when the river was. higjher than- the land. The writers expressed the hope that the board would’ give the matter further considejratich.—Received CLASSIFICATION. Mr E. F. Adams, Thames, reported having inspected and classified all the land in the board’s area as A glass. The clerk was authorised tel advertise the classification, and exhibit a copy for public inspection.
