RALLY AT NGARUAWAHIA. There will be a big rally of the Girl Guides in Ngaruawalhia on March 2, when the representatives of a, dozen troops will compete for a shield given as a trpphy for excellence in Guide work. The day which is. the birthday of both Chiefs has been called “Thinking Day,” and it is set apai.t as a day on which Guides throughout, all the; world shall think cf their sister Guides in other lands. We in New Zealand, because off cur geographical position, are the very first this morping to send forth the good wishes which will circle the whole earth. — “Many happy returns to the Chiefs!” PIONEER BADGE. M. has been definitely laid down that before a,Guide may attend a Dominion Guide- camp which is to be held in Wellington in January of next year,, she must, have obtained) her Pioneer Badge. These are the Qualifications for the badge :— A Guide must have camped out at least one. week under canvas, andi know- how to pitch, air, trench, strike, and do small repairs to a tent, She mint. know how to construct a camp fire, and know how to collect, chop, and stack suitable firing. She must hold the Cook’s Badge, and cook the following on a. camp fire : Porridge, stew, dumplings, and fry bacon. She must understand how to erect screening a,nd improvise soimq useful camp gadget without, string w nails. She must be able to do diagonal and square lashings, and make two of the following: Camp larder, flagstaff, kitbag, palliasse cover, shelter, bridge. Lastly, she must be able to take a proper share in the various camp duties and organise a scouting game.
