Don’t delay ; genuine bargains offering at Masters and Son’s for 14 days only.* With reference to the statement by Mr Rabone, Public Works Engineer at Arapuni, when comparing Arapuni Dani with the disastrous end of the St. Franc.is Dam in California, that he understood the St. Francis Dam had cmly been filled a week when the structure collapsed, a correspondent to the “Star” corrects him. On page 182, third paragraph, of “Water Works,’’ an American publication whic.h gjves a complete account of. the destruction of the St. Francis Dam, the following sentence is found: “First, there is the fact that the dam had been in service for two years, and 'had held water long enough to have softened the conglomerate many months ago to a point of failure if all that thq committee says about this roc.k is true.” To which the correspondent adds: “The date of this, publication is May, 1928. It. is as Well to have these facts correctly stated, as the Arapuni dam has. had water in it for a little over twelve months, and the St. Francis dam burst after water ha.d been in it for two years.”
