NETHERTON DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD. RATES SETTLED. The Netherton Drainage Board met in the Netherton Hall on. Friday evening, Mr G. Buchanan presiding elver Messrs J. A. Reid, F. T. V. Johnson, E. A. Chester, F. Halligan, «nd J. E. Green (clerk). SUBDIVISIONS. The specjal orders confirming, the resolutions which, defined the threp subdivisions and fixed the representation thereof, as, advertised, were confirmed at a special meeting, prior to the orifinary’ meeting. BOUNDARY OF AREA. Mr T. Considine wrote expressing the view that a mistake had been made with the boundary ■ of. the Board’s area, with the result that portion of section 24 would be rated by the Lands Department The clerk reported that the line had been fixed by Mr El Taylor, the lands drainage engineer, to whom, the matter had been referred for action in conjunction with Mr Considine. There was no chance of double rating, as the line; adopted served as the boundary for both areas. The clerk was instructed to reply accordingly. AWAITI ROAD CULVERT.
Mr T. Considine, Awaiti, wrote at great length protesting against the proposal to connect the; Awaiti Road drains by a culvert, contending that his property would suffer damage. The chairman moved) that the letter be received, when the time came to consider the placing of. the culvert the matter could be considered. ,Seconded by Mr Johnson and) carried. FENCING OF DRAINS. Mr Johnson mentioned the necessity of having the board’s drai is fences. It was, decided to attend to the matter at the next meeting. ACCOUNTS. Accounts totalling £34 9s 5d "'ere passed for payment. INCIDENCE OF RATING. Mr J. .Wakeham, Awaiti, wrote asking to be advised of certain points concerning classification and rating, • The chairman stated that until the bdard had finalised the mattep the information could not be supplied. Mr Halligan said that trouble had been caused by the action of. one Awaiti man, who had worked out the amount of rates every man in the district would have; to pay and) hatl advised them, with the result that dissentiem now prevailed throughout the district. The chairman expressed amazement at this, as the hoard had not yet fixed the; amount of rates to be levied for each classification. A long discussion in coriimittee fol--lo\4ed concerning the classification adopted, and it was mentioned: that no objections had been received. AMOUNT OF RATES. The chairman gave notice; of intention to move that the general rate to be struck on the land classed as A in each area be 3d in the, £ on the unimproved valuation ; on B land, 2d ; and an C land, Id.
