POLICE COURT.
SITTING AT PAEROA. CYCLING ON FOOTPATH. At the Paeroa police Court this morning, before Messrs P- E. Brenan and H. Mills, J’s.P„ G. H. Hayward was charged with riding a motorcycle on a footpath on November 25. and with riding in a way dangerous to the public. ' The first witness was F. E. Flatt, who estimated that the speed was at least 25 miles an hour. He stopped the motorist and took his number. Ivan Ellis also gave evidence, as to seeing seeing the cyclist on the footpath and as to his speedA statement put in by defendant was that he was going to Thames and took the wrong, road, and in avoiding a broken bottle went on to the footpath and could not get off again. Defendant was convicted on both charges and fined 10s, and costs 10s, on each charge, with witnesses’ expenses £l. RIDING WITHOUT LIGHTS. Henry Hovill, for riding, his bicycle at night without a light, was fined 10s, with costs 10a Constable Dawson said that when he stopped Hovill the latter said he knew he was in the wrong but was taking a chance. Sergeant Calwell appeared for the police in both cases. BREACH OF INFANT ACT. - A case for a breach of the Infant Act, 1908, was laid against a Rotokohu resident, but as she did not appear Sergeant Calwell asked the Bench to issue a summons for her appearance before the magistrate on February 11.
