PAEROA FIRE BRIGADE.

LAST NIGHT’S) MEETING.

At a meeting of the Paeroa Fire Brigade last evening, Superintendent W. Moor,e presiding, it was decided ta again bring to the notice of the Firq Council that in spite of promises nothing had been done to clear the training track of.metal heaps, with the result that the brigade was handicapped in its preparaton for participation in the forthcoming demonstration at Hokitika ; (2) the recent fires in Hill and Frances Streets showed absolute urgency for a syren to be attached.' to the motor, in ordep- to avoid accidents —the long-asked-for syren was a legally compulsory addition to the engine’s equipment. (3) That the whereabouts of firq-plugs should be indicated by a white patch. On the mcftion of Fireman Martin, seconded by Secretary Malcolm, it was Unanimously decided that the secretary wr,ite Mrs Stevens and Mrs Hayward tendering them; the sincere thanks of the brigade for much ciated refreshments supplied by these two ladies at the recent fire.. The meeting closed with the presentation on behalf of the United Fire Association of a 33 years’ service goid bar to Superintendent Moore by Fireman Ward. Fireman Ward: spoke in e;ulogistic, terms, of the fine vices rendered to the community by Superintendent Moore, and was joined by. the whole brigade in wishing him many more years of happiness, health, and fire service. Superintendent Moore expressed his deep appreciation of Fireman Ward’s remarks, and the great honour he felt at having spent so many years in duty for the public. He went on to say that he and his two sons had a" total of 55 years’ service betweep them.

After the official business of the evening had been concluded an informal gathering was held in honour of their popular c.hi®f receiving his gold bar, and to welcome Secretary Malcolm upon his return from Australia.

On behalf, of the brigade Deputy E. Moore stated that Mr, Malcolm was one of the bqst secretaries the brigade has ever had, and had brought honour to himself and) the Paeroa Fire Brigade by introducing flrp drill into the schools.
