An interesting stage in the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association’s inter-club competition was reached oh Saturday, when, the last series of matches of the present * programme was commenced. Up to the present the points won are as follows: Ngates 12, Waitakaruru 9, Kopuarahi 6, Orongo 6, Kaihere 3, Pipiroa 0. It was expected that Ngatea would establish a good lead against Kopuarahi, which had been beaten by Orongo on the tw« previous Saturdays, but Kopuarahi put up 121 and Ngatea made only 70. Unless this form is reversed at Ngatea next Saturday there is a chance that the competition Will require a play-off Waitakaruru made 96 against Kaihere, but took until 3.15 to do it, so with Kaihere’s score at 13 for two it is possible that a three-point win .will not be secured by the visiting team at Kaihere next Saturday, in .which case Ngatea will win the competition. Small scores were put up in the Orahgo-Pipiroa match at Orongo, the visitors making 34 and the soldiers 21.
The suggestion has been made that a further competition of. one round of one-day matches be held. There will probably be a meeting of the association this week to discuss the matter.
