PROSPEROUS NETHERTON

THE HOME OF THE PIONEERS. * Speaking from a fertilisation point of view Netherton at the present time presents a conspicuous picture of prosperity. For upwards of 59 years this rich and, extensive area of flat country has been moving steadily onward, manned 1 by a body of men endowed with unlimited energy. Netherton has suffered severely from floods in the pa's.t, and the settlers have sustained many a setback that would have driven ordinary men to distraction and to fields afar; but with hearts of oak, indefatigability, and determination the settlers struggled! on and became master men, with the result .that they own the land they plough, which is aiuWgst the finest dairying centres to be found >n New Zealand.

The year nearly closed has, brought to the Netherton farmers one of the most prosperous, seasons of grass that can be recalled for a long time. Netherton country, which embodies many hundreds of acres of rich land, maintains many prosperous hettler-:. some of the choice farms comprise 200 or more acres, 311 fenced and wellcared for, while others are of smaller areas. Perhaps Mr J. Morrison’s dairy farm of 200 acres is one of the largest in Netherton. It is, really a model farm, all cleared, well fenced, and carrying 90 dairy cows. There are many other nice farms promiscuously scattered which might also well be termed model farms, but they are smaller holdings and carry less stock. At the present time all hands and the cook, so to speak, are on the job of hay-making and stacking, with the result that in a short time many huge stacks, of hay will be visible, all ro.und. The hay this year will be so plentiful that it is probable that much of it will be baled and despatched to places where grass crops, have not been so plentiful as in and around Nethertop. Some of the farmers report excellent crops of oats, and In some cases barley is grown, while maize crops are not overlooked. Generally speaking, the farmers are looking forward to a most successful milking seals,on. It is hoped their dreams may c.ome true, for the fanners of Netherton are genuine deservers of all that their land) can give them.
