PLAINS DRAINAGE.

HAURAKI WEST BOARD MEETING. UNIFORM RATE AUTHORISED. The Hauraki Plains West Drainagp Board held its monthly meeting at Ngatea yesterday, Mr C. W. Parfitt presiding over Messrs T. A. McClean, A. 11. McClean, J. Motion, and the clerk, Mr E. L. Walton. UNIFORM GENERAL RATE. The Internal Affairs Department advised that pursuant to section. 3, Lands Drainage Amendment A c t, 1913, the board had been authorised to make and levy its general rate for the current year on a uniform scale. The letter was received, and the chairman gave notice of intention to levy at the next meeting a uniform general rate of l%d in the £ qn the unimproved valuation. JANUARY MEETING. It was agreed that the next meeting be held on January 7, 1929. DATA FROM DEPARTMENT. The lands drainage engineer, Kerepeehi, forwarded a Plan ®tf the drainage district showing the drains maintained by the Lands Department in 1927, and also a schedule giving description and approximate length of drains. A plan was also forwarded showing the land levels. It was decided; to thank the department for the information. A PUHANGA CULVERT. The chairman reported qn an inspection of a culvert under the riverside road on the island block, as desired by Mr Leonard 1 and Mrs R. H* Dudding. He did not think a new culvert was. absolutely necessary. Mr T. McClean said that the fate of the culvert depended on what was to be dqne to the drains. It was decided to have inquiries made as to the cost of 2ft 6in concrete pipes. CLASSIFICATION. The chairman reported that Mr. EF. Adams would classify the land in the board’s area for £lO, plus something extra if it was necessary to defend his actions in. Cqurt. lOn the motion of the- chairman, seconded by Mr T. McClean, Mr Attains was appointed classifier. PUHANGA SOUTH PROPOSAL. The chairman reported that Mr A. Baxter had received intimation fr,om the Lands Drainage Department that it would be unwise to deepen a stopbank drain near his property, as seepage through the stop-bank would be increased. It would be .wise to abandon the stop-bank (train and provide a new outlet, for which, purpose a grant of £l5O had been made to the Hauraki Plains West Drainage Board. It was decided to inquire into the matter, ( BY-LAWS. Mr Motion urged the early adoption of by-laws. In reply to a question by the clerk, members gave their opinion on the draft by-laws circulated. Certain suggestions were made.

It was agreed that a special meeting should be held to settle the matter
