PUKE-WAIHI HIGHWAY.
RECONSTRUCTION COMMENCED. METALLING AT PUKE. Users of the main highway between the Puke bridge- ajid Waihi will be glad to learn that a start was made this morning with the improving of the road. Messrs McCallum Bros., of Aucqland, who have secured the contract from the Main Highways Board, c,ommencqd metalling ;a,t the Puke this morning, and the work 'Mil pre/ ceed steadily. Metal is being procured from the Ohinemuri River, and is being crushed at Mackaytown. Since the Highways Board took over the control of this section from the Ohinemuri county Council the surface has become very rough. Had maintenance been, carried out the cost would havq been gpeatly in excess of what the work is now costing.
