Hitherto, Parliament has governed .the people, but a grave; situation has arisen which will mean that a 'handful of outsiders, representing a minority coterie, will run the country in spite of the wishes of the; people. The New Zeland Alliance acknwledges havinjg, pledged certain members of Parliament to carry out the rejected) prohibition policy of the; Alliance, in direct opposition to the ballot. During, last sessoin a majority of members supported the “demands” of the Alliance ! This body recognises the fact that popular vote will never advocate prohibition, and so its attempts to thrust its fanaticism in the fac.e enc.e of the people’s representatives! of the people by gajning the adherLegislation is thus being poisoned l at the fountain.
