THE RAINFALL.

DATA FOR OCTOBER. PAEROA RECORDINGS. Loyally, rain fell on 20 days during last month, and 1 thq gauge at the Public Works Department’s office, Paeroa, shows a total of 6.73 inches. The. figures for the previous five Octobers' are as follows: 1923, 3.68 inches; 1924, 5.39 ; 1925, 3.16 ; 1926, 8.73; 1927,1.96. ; The heaviest fall last month were on the 18th, when th e gauge showed 1.90 inches, and on the 10th, when the; amount was 1.62 inches. The total rainfall for the present' year t,o date is 56.43 injches, as compared with 40.6(1 inchep for the same period last year. The baxometey was fairly steady at a lihtle above 30 inches for the'; first ten days ; it fluctuated a little ~ during; the; middle period, and was be-. low 30 inches for. the last 10 days of the month.

The thermometer readings ranged frqm 46 degrees to 60 degrees, the average being about 56 degrees. The wind was generally from the north.

HAURAKI PLAINS FIGURES. WET MONTH RECORDED. Rain was recorded by Hhe gauge at the Lands Drainage Department’s Kerepeehi, on seventeen days last mqnth, the total fall being 6.55 inches. This is 2.60 inches above the average for October ini the last 16 years, and has only been exceeded in two October months during that period. During the last eight days of ,last mqnth 2.31 inchqs of rain fell. The heaviest falls during the month for 24-hour periods were for tihe 24 hours ending at 8 a.m. on the- 19th, whe.n 1.59 inches were recorded, and on the 11th, when the gaugjei showed 1.10 inches. Just under one inch was shown on Tuesday morning. The* total for. the year to date is 40.29 inches.
