MONTHLY MEETING. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The monthly meeting of tflie lOhinemuri County Council was held yesterday, Cr. H. M. Corbett (chairman), presiding over Crs. C. Mason, C. E. Hands, R. :R. Morrison, A- R. Robinson, J. B. Morris, and C. E. Mace. ■MARATOTO STREAM FORD. The secretary of the ‘Ohinemuri Gold and Silver Mines, wrote enclosing a copy of a letter from the Undersecretary, Mines -Department, which stated that the Minister was prepared tc; grant the sum of £6O towards the cost of putting, a new crate across the Mara.toto stream below the ford recently made, and pile some rocks on the upper side; of the new track across this ford. This, it was thought, wC;UId help to preserve access to the company’s battery in the event of a further flood. In addition, it was undenstcpdl that there was. an amount of £2OO available for this road under the Public Works Department’s vote., and it was suggested that tjie council should approach the; Public Wqrks Department with a view to getting its .approval oJ the expenditure of the whole cr portion of the’sum at. the washout. •
It was decided! to leave the matter in, the hands of the; engineer, to prer pare the necessary plans for, the expenditure of the. money. ARMISTICE DAY. A c,ii cular. letter frqm t!he Prime Minister was received asking the council’s co-operation, in observing , two m’nute;s’ silence at 11 o’clock on , Sunday, November 11. PAEROA WATER SUPPLY. The medical officer of lhealth wrote stating that he ’was having, samples of water taken .for analysis and a report oji| tl'e source of supply. WAIHI-PAERQA ROAD. Mr R; Carden wrote stating that on investigation c ; f the title of the piece; of land called Hautamurua Block he had discovered that this portion of the main highway between Paeroa and Waihi had never been legalised'. The piece of Iqnd in question rail from the turn-off leading up to the dam. ‘ Tile road 'had been used for over 40 1 years, and he desired to know if the counjcil. would take steps to legalise this portion of the main highway. It was resolved, that the necessary steps be taken to legalise/this portion uf the main highway. , REPAIRS TO ROAD. The secretary of the Waihi branch of tihe N.Z. Farmers’ Union wrote asking for portion of Trig Road and worst portions of the Wai'hi-Whanga-mata road to be metalled this summer. Referred to the engineer for a report. CLOSING OF ROAD. , ■ A resolution was passed agreeing to the closing of a road through. Mrs Julia Aniglefs property in section l‘J> Block XII., the site of the old tram- ' line. BEES NEAR PUBLIC ROAD. . The matter of having an apiary near the road was commented on by .Cr. Robinson. He said that the fact of travellers along the road 1 , and also horses, being stung had created a nuisance. Cr. Masqn .thought that apiaries should be at le;ast ten chains , away from a road. The chairman said he did not know what the council could do in the mat- ,, ter, but he would have it looked into. WANDERING STOCK. It was decided that the rangci should pay a visit to the Kahna.uawa riding, in view of complaints being made of wandering stock.
