THE Hauraki Plains Gazette. With which is incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE. Motto: Public Service. MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, 1928. SWIMMING BATHS.

Much has been heard of onr loc.al swimming ba.ths, especially during the past. 12 months, and it is refreshing to learn they are no,w ready to be opened. Tihe bath was completed at the end of las.t summer, but a good deal of work had to be done in the erection of dressing-sheds, lighting, fencing, and levelling the grounds surrounlding the bath. The Borough Council at its, last meeting decided to hold its official opening on Saturday. November 3, but later on it is proposed to hold a swimming carnival. In order to: do this) it will, be nec, ess, ary to, form a swim.ming club and affiliate with the. Sout'h Auckland Swimming Association. To this end tlie council has called a meeting for. Wednesday- evening pext of those interested in swimming, a:nd it is to> be hoped the proposal will receive every support, not only from swimming enthusiasts, but from the public generally. We have quite a nupiber of good s.wimmers in t'he tp.wn who are an.xiqus to see a club started, and who have promised to give their assistance, not only for the benefit of the club, but to help who wish to acquire the art of swimming. We are sure that a good live swimming club would be a valuable asset to the athletic organisations, in the town, and, in conjunction with the baths, would fill a 10.u,g-felt want.
