LAST MATCH OF THE SEASON. THAMES JUNIORS BEAT PAEROA. . The Paerqa football, season wa,s brought to a close on Saturday, when the Thames junior representatives met and defeated the Paeroa juniors, at the local domain by six point;-;, to nil. The game waSi well contested, but •was not up to the standard expected. Although both sides did spmei good /work, play at times was, very ragged and generally lacked finish. The better team won, and thq spores give a fair indication; of the merit »f the opposing teams. The following were ,the telains : — Thames!.—R. Buchan, L. Adams. G. Wenzlick, C. Skelley, S. Paeroa. —-Fraser, Rare, Masters, Wilkinuon, Moore, Pqland, Mead, Niald.'Flatt, Ashcroft, Stewart, Carnick. Denize, Vercoe, Currie. Thaiqe's. kicked off and 1 shortly afterwards. Buchan put in a good r.un down the line, but the advance was stopped on account of a throw-on. Carrick brqke; away from the «.crum and entered Thames’ territory, a defender saving the situation by kicking hard to the dead-ball line. From the five-yard):; scrum Thames worked out, and ih loose play gained a penalty but failed to spore;. A forward rush was well stopped by Fraser, and 1 Pae-, roa worked o ( ut to new teirritqry. Is open play Rare kicked hard over the line and the; Paeroa; supports were just' beaten, for the ball. Thames rushed to the other end and almost got oyer, but from a five-yards scrum Paeroa relieved. Considerable midfield play endued in the sec,on,d quarter,, wlith plenty of kicking bouts. Thames returned with a loose tush, which was pulled up thrqugh a knock-o>ii|. Play was tight on Paeroa’s line when the. bell went. Paeroa pressed after half-time, but Thames, worked out agatin in loose play. The ball travelled between the two, twenty-five lines, both teams passing well and tackling Roundly. From a scrum Fraser, who had changed to half-back, sent out to Rare, who made a nice dash before centring, but the kick wai?, a little too hand and Thames forced. Wilkins,on made a guodj run! dq,wn the line and had a good opportunity, but used his boot and Thames marked. The visitors worked down the field and were attacking when the quarter ended. In open play Paeroa gained ground, and! a njee passing rush reached the corner. Masters, had every ichqnce t® score. bu,t when the ball reached him he hesitated and was lqst. Thames prevailed, and ip loose play Mead missed with a speculator, and Wenzlick snapped up and dashedl unopposed Over the-line. Adami;, failed to convert. Thames 6, Paeroa 0.
