GOLF.
CLOSING OF SEASON, PRESENTATION OF PRIZES. Although the weather was anything but inviting e>n Saturday last, a, large number o.f members, toqk pa,rt in the final game of the sea on. Play commenced soon after 1.30 p.m.. wilieiii the rain was falling fairly heavily; and a stiff wind added to the players’ difficulties. An hour later, however, the rain had cea.ed and the latter parts of the- games were played under quite enjoyable cond-tiqns. The ladies, had provided a very dainty afternoon tea, and after everyone had partaken of th:! good, things provided Mr A- Steedman;, president of the club, made ready to present the prizes won during .the sc;asqn. In. a short introductory speech Mr Steedman said that, he c.o,uld not let the occasion pass- without expressing his pleasure at the very successful .season, they had had. The game of golf was popular in Paeroa. and 1 he thqught, the lady meynbers had contributed larg.ely to that popularity by their enthusiasm and help. Tlie following .were the trophies) with tlhe winners : Ladies. —Club Cihampionship, Mrs Bray ; Club Handicap, Mrs Bray and Mis F. Hubb:a,rd to play off; Club Rose Bowl, Miss, Walmsley; Miss Thorp’s trophy, sealed hole match, Miss Masters; Miss Tierney’s trophy, eclectic, match, Miss Masters,; Mrs F. Hubbard’s trophy, best aggregate two rqunds, Mrs, Bray; Mrs E. Edwards’ trophy, bogey handicap. Mrs F. Hubb ird ; Mrs G. T. trophy, Ist and 2|id-year players. Mr's, J. N. McDonald. Monthly medals were won by Mis's, L. Thorp (2). Mis'’. Walmsley, Mrs Bray (2), Mrs Miller, Miss Masters ; Silver Medal (L.G.U.); Mrs Miller.; Bronze Medal (L.G.U.), Misu. L. Thorp. Men. —Club Handicap, H. Bray; Junior Championship, two round's), H. R. Thorp ; Bogey Match, T- Moresby ; Flag Match. Mr R. L. Miller’r. trophy, H. Bray ; Bogey Match, Mr P. R. Hubbard’s trophy, R. S. Steedman’s prize)’, for the best cards, on Saturday (closing day) were awarded as follows: Ladies., Miss L. T.hbrp ; men, A. Hollis. Before concluding Mr Steedman stated that the ladies’ club had a's-ked him to mayk the, club’s appreciation of thq sue'eese, achieved by Mrs Andrew's, in ,the matter of floral decorations at this and) other tejmilar functions held during the Reason by pre,s,ent?ing her. with a small replica golf club. Moreover, the .members, had not forgotten Mrs Pringle, who had ably provided for all thirsty and • hungry players regularly daring the. season, a nd' a presentation was made to her. Mrs, Pringle in a very njeat speech replied thanking the club. FAREWELL TO MRS LAWRENCE.
After all the prizes, had been presented Mr Steedman stated 1 that he had one other duty to perform which he regretted very muc|h, ;an& that was to bid farewell on behalf of the club to Mrs, Lawrence, who would' s’oogi be leaving for Waipukuraii. He s,aid) tha,t Mrs Lawrence had always been an enthusiastic member, and was at present holding the dual po's.itiqn of ladies’ club captaiin, and ■secretary. Members equid mot ajlow her to depart without marking the occasion by presenting her .wit.h 'X-omething which he hoped wquld help to revive pleasant recollections of Paeroa, and asked her to accept an afternoon tea service and crystal-ware. He hoped th;qt club member's, would have the pleasure of •seeing Mrs Lawrence back on the Paeroa links at ome future time. He then called for three hearty cheers for Mrs. Lawrence.
Mrs Lawrence in a short speech thanked members for their gift.
