Building permits to the value of £1224 were granted at last, night’s meeing of the Paeroa Borough Council. Tlie value of permit's granted! for the half-year ended on September' 30 amounted to £6861. In reply to the Paeroa Borough Council’s congratulation's on his flight across the .Tasman Sea, and: to its ini viatiqn to visit Paeroa, SquadronCommander Kingsford Smith wrote; thanking the c.ouneil for it's congratulations anid stating he regretted that owing to, pressure ‘of time a to Paeroa equid not be made. Cr. Edwards said that he had had the pleasure of personally conveying ,to Kingsford Smith the councils, congratulations/which wcir.e thoroughly appreciated. The Ngatea Tennis Club, which opens it-i sea Son to-moirow. now has four courts, which wiil posiibly he the envy of. members of other clubs. During t,he past few weeks the two asphalt courts have been re-surfaced, and tlie two chip courts have been surfaced with. bit,umen. “ Coldtix” bituminous solution was, used, an,d a.s this doe | not bleed in hot weather, it. has. been found that tennis balls and cloithinjg ii not bla;ckenied. The solid but springy foundation provided by the old chip courts and the hard surface of the bitumen combines to make what appears] to; be ah ideal court, on which players, do not become as fatigued as when playing on, the usual asphalt or cojncrete courts. At last night’s meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council it was decided' borrow a sum of £5OO tq pay for. -the septic tank improvqmenit i and a s.mall sewerage extension, and £7OO forwater, extensions and renewal's of water-mains which were rustled through.
