VICTIM OF SLEEPY SICOESS. UNCONTROLLABLE IMPULSE. Afflicted with suicidal tendencies, a legacy of an attack of sleepy sickness, a rich young, man of uncommon intcllecual attainments ’succeeded: in eluding the care of his guardians, and giving effect, to his uncontrollable impulses. The victim of this, tragedy was Henry Clive Gallup, 24, whose fate was inquired into at an inquest at Wellington, Sojmerset. Gallup, whose home was a Laugstone Brentor, pear Tavistock, Devon, was educated) at Etojn and Magdalen College,, Oxford 1 , where four years ago he suffered from sleepy sickngssi. For the past eighteen, month's he had been in the charge of Dr. C. B. Hillyar, of Wellington', as a, resident patient, and there was a male nurr|e in attendance. One morning Gallup was foundj in the garden, in an excited 1 stata, and .when questioned by hi's nurse said he had taken strychnine, from the doctor’s, dispensary. He died .within ten minutes. Dr. Hillyar told the coroner tha,t there was nq doubt that Gallup had suicidlal tendencies, a nCft uncommon feature of ca'ses recovering from sleepy sic,knqsis. A specialist who saw him about three months ago stated 'he would either become a lunatic or commit suicide. Dr. Hillyar added thajt about a month age; lie found Gallup prowling about, the surgery. He warned him that he wquld have tb leave if that happened again. He was. convinced that Gallup intended to commit, suicide, and he did not want it to happen at his house. “KncAving this was bound to be the end of it,” declared the doctor, “I had made arrangements for him to go into rqoms in the town.” A 1 verdict of suicide while of unsound minid was returned, and at. the request of Dr. Hillyar an order for cremation was majde.
