GOLDFIELDS TOURNAMENT. WIN FOR PAEROA TEAM. On Saturday last a very interesting ‘series c : f basketball matches war-i played at the Paeroa, District High School, the occasion being the annual tojurnament. among the girl’s of the primary schools, in ,the| goldfields■ district for the shield presented by t!lw Paeroa Basketball Association. The secretary qf the association, Miss EFreeman, ;q,hd Miss E. Gill, were ie sponsible for the undoubted succ,c!f of the gathering. Everything passed very pleas»ntly, the girls thoroughly enjoying the afternoon’s sport provided fPf them. Following are the results, of the games played: — First Rc.und.—Paeroa Convent 4, v. Waihi Central 3; Te Aroha H, v. Hikutaia 0; Waihi South 3, v. Thames Central A 2; Thames, South 4, v. Waihi East 1; Waihi Coinvent 10, v. Thames Central B 0. Second Round—Waihi South 3, v. Thames South 0 ; Paeroa 6, v. Waihi Convent. 3; Te Aroha 3, v. Paeroa Convent 2. ... Semi-final.—Paeroa 7 v. Waih South 1- , , Final.—Paerqa 6, v. Te- Aroha o. The final game was a particularly one, and was -closely followed by interested competitors; who had lost their chance of winding through bd ing defeated in previous games. The formal presentation of the Shield to the Paeroa School teajm was, made by Mr G H. Taylor, president of the Paeroa Basketball Association. TO-MORROW’S TOURNAMENT. To-mdrrow the Paeroa Associatqn will hold a kwack-out tournament, when the sea-ion will be closed and the shield and cup, won respectively by Areta/. Seniors arid Kiwi Junior, will, be presented. Each team has been handicapped by the committee as follows. : Seniors. High Scjiojol 4 points., Kiwi 2 pqints, Areta scr. Juniors,. United 12 points, Primary 6 point’s, High School 4 points, Kiwi s, cr - The draw is as follows: —■ Seniors—High School v. Areta, 3 p.m.; Kiwi v. the! winners, 4 p.m. Junors.—United v. Primary, 1-45 p.m. ; High School v. Kiwi, 2 p.m.
