FANCY DRESS BALL.

PLUNKET SOCIETY EFFORT. SUCCESSFUL NGATEA FUNCTION. An enormous crowd of children mid adults assembled at the Ngatea Haji aii, evening, when (here was held a fancy dress ball in aid of the funds of the local branch of the Plunket Society. During, the day the weather, was very bad, but the rain stopped in tlie evening and by the large number pre ent, it appeared that few, if any, had been prevented) from attending. All the children, were in fancy costume, and consequently it was 19-15 p.m. before the grand march and judging were concluded. The judges were Mesdames Bell and Baig.a.nt, of Turua, and their awards; were popular. ones. Maypole apd country danc.es arranged by Miss, Gray, of ithe Ngatea school, were given by parties of Qh.ildreiu. The difficult, duties of M.C. were in the capable hands; of Mr JNeatc, and the music was, by a Ngatea Orchestra comprising Miss L. Birkenj head. Mos \rs King, Kawini, Martin, and Ccppins. After a delightful supper, donated by tlie ladies Of the district, had been served, Mrs W. Gi. Hayward, president of the local branch of the Plunket Society, expressed her thanks and gratification, at the manner ip which the people of the district had rallied round the society. She then presented the prizes for costumes and for the competition’s which had been held. The cake, donated by Messrs W. and V. Montgomery, weighed 1 61b tYaoz, and five people tied in the gue'ping of the weight, Mrs S. Birkenhead winning in. the draw. Mrs Langridg,e’s cake weighed l 81b 12%0z, and the nearest guess was; that of Mr D. Dajgety’s, 81b 12oz. The name of the doll was “Harriett,” and this was gue-sed by Miss C.
