OHINEMURI COUNTY.
MONTHLY meeting of council. ROUTINE BUSINESS. The, monthly meeting of the Ohir.emuri' County Council was held yesterday, the chairman (Cr. IT. M. Corbett) presiding over the following. Crs. C. E. Mace, A. R. Robinson, R. RMorrison, C. Mason, F. Hubbard, W. F. Johnstone, J. B. Morris, and C. Hands. MARATOTO ROAD. The Minister of Mines wrote declining the council’s application for a gra,nt. of £5OO to generally recondition ” Maratoto Road. . , It was decided to forward a copy °f the letter to .the secretary of the Ohinemuri Minxes, Ltd. ' WAITAWHETA RIVER. The Commissioner csf Crown Lands wrote forwarding a. copy of a letter from R. Joughin with reference! to, the timber-floating license over the Waitawheta River. He 'had cleared away i the whole of the boom and broken it intq small pieces so that it could float away, and het considered that the river, was now safe. Cr. 'Mason said that Mr Joughin was being, blamed for timber, that was left in the river by former contractors. RAILWAY CROSSINGS. A letter was. received from the district engineer of railways l stating that instructions had been issued to cut ba,ck any growth obstructing the view at railway crossings on the Waitekauri rqad near Waikino. y The chairman said that the growth obscured the view, and it would be a good thing to, have the work dope. HIKUTAIA STREAM. The resident Public Works engineer wrote advising that he had made an inspection of the erogion of. the bank of the Hikutaia stream, and before adequate consideration could, be given to the cause and the amount at probable extension; of scour it would be necessary to take a series of measurements of the stream bed. From his casual inspection he unable to see that there was any pressing danger to, the road. POKENO-WAIHI HIGHWAY. X The resident engineer, Public Works Department, wrote agreeing tq the quarterly payments to cover the construction towards the maintenance between, thq Ngahina bridge ajid the Waihi Borough boundary. The first payment was due in September. HEAVY TRAFFIC ALLOCATION. The town clerk of, Hamiltc.ii wrote forwarding a copy of the order made by the magistrate allocating the heavy traffic fees collected. Th& or- | der provided for boroughs 55 per cent. and for counties .75 per c,ent. This year the pool was to be disbursed in proportion to the amounts spent out of the current, year’s revenues of the local bodies concerned on, street maintenance or reconstruction, and the interest and sinking, funds on loans I raised for. street recpnfstruction, excluding from the total the Government grants, Highways Board! subsidies, and special loans. ACCESS WANTED, * P. Sweetman wrote asking for something to be done to give- acc.es,s to hi.-i farm at Waikido. This matter, op the chairman’s motion, was left in the hands of the engineer. MINING RENT. Messrs Miller, and Son, solicitors for .the estate of the late H, A. Adams, wrote asking fqr a reduction of rent of the Kqmata Reefsi mines. A reduction was granted to Is an acre for 12 months. WHANGAMATA ROAD. The- Chief Surveyor, forwarded a plan for endorsement of the council’s c.onsent in connection with the deviation of Whangamata Road. —Request complied with. Iu connection with this road the following resolution was passed: “That ini consideration, of the Public Works Department maintaining the portions of the Wai hi-whangamata Road knowns as Bjerring’s and Boss’s deviations for a period of three years from this date, the, council undertakes that it will pay over to the des partmept the full amount of general rates received during the said three years from property in, that area; and, further, that after the expiration! of tihc said three years the council will net apply t.o the department for assistance towards the cost of maintenance of the said deviations.” TENDERS. The tenders received for the contract on Silakey Bend, Old Te Aroha Road, were as follows: J. Quinlivan, £lOO5 15s ; R. G. Miller, £793 ; J. J. McCarthy, £773 12s, 6d ; R. D. Eastwood, £539 ; A. A. Curtis, £535. The tender by A. A. Curtis was accepted.
