OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING AT PAEROA, The annual meeting of the Ohinemuri Jockey Club was held on Saturday night, Mr P. E. Brenan, chairman of the committee, presiding over, abcjiit 40 members. • The report an.d balance-sheet revealed that, the, club had experienced a successful season both from a racing and a financial point of view-. The endeavour of the committee to, get an extra, permit for a t.pring meeting had not been .successful.' After allowing £450 for depreciation and allocating £76 to the bad debts, reserve, the net profit for the: year wag £1027 14s 2d. The amount put through the totali ator for the two days’ racing put the average of the club up to the sixth place for the 80-odd clubn in the Dominiojii. The amount cf taxation c ; ii the turnover was £4488, and rates £135 14s lid. The stakes paid were £3827, and £lB7 13s had) been Spent on course improvements. Reference t.o the death of the late ■Mr Nat. Dickey, who was a folinflatiqn member of the club, and who had for ma.ny years raced horses at the club’s metings, was -made by the chairman'. A vote of sympathy was passed to the relative-; of the deceased. •Mr P. Grace, wlioi retired from the committee, after 20-odd years’ service as a .steward', was made a life ihon'orary member. Mr E. Edwards advocated) the extension nf the membership from 100 to 300 at. least. By this means the dilliculty that was in the way of having; a. member’s’ stand conld be overcome, a" the 200 extra, members’ subscriptions wcitild be sufficient to pay interest and' sinking fund on the- cost of a stand costing £3OOO. . The suggestion was supported by other members. Fo,r the four vacancies on the committee Messrs P. E. Brenan, T. Barrett, F. Tierney-, and W. Neil were elected.
