The query raised at the last meeting of the Ngatea branch of the Farmers’ Union concerning the incidence of tuberculosis in the cattle on the Hauraki Plains was referred to Mr J. Costello, he Farmers’ Veterinary Culb’s surgeon, on, Friday. His reply was very definite, and was to the effect that cattle on the Hauraki Plains were nqw healthier than those o.f any other, part of the Domin’ion. He had figures tq prove it. Tuberculosis was practically non-existent in the district.
Mr Costello .mentioned that in thte early days of the Plains tuberculosis was very prevalent, as the nature of the co.untry weakened the constitution, of the cattle s;o that they were prone to all the diseases going. The yeans 1926 showed the beginning of a very marked improvement; 1927 was even better, and now the district was the healthiest in the Dominion.
