ROLLER MILLS SHIELD GAMES.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —As one who has seen all the school games played here this week, and who is anxious to see the Thames Valley boys win the final match on Saturday, may I suggest that we endeavour, as spectators, to applaud good football by either side and by any player. I a,m afraid the sporting spirit has been somewhat lacking so far, principally, of course, a.mong.st the -small children barrackers. The visitors are only schoolboys, and must be disheartened by one-sided demonstratioivs. Personally, I think the Auckland boys a,re fine footballers, only very slightly inferior to our own. THAMES VALLEY. NOT UNDERSTOOD. O I how joyful tlie rally box sound. With two, Army lasses at the football ground, In and out and round abOjiit, Itiseemed to me peculiar ; But in their box the money goes, Glory, Hallelujah I Sir, —I crave'a few line's in your valuable paper, to express my surprise at beholding two young ladies of the l<> al Salvation Army standing at the gates of the dqma'n with collection boxes, natura.lly .enough, giving the impression to visitors that they were collecting for the benefit of the football union, controlling the youthful players. But no such tiling: they were collecting on behalf of the Army. I do not take exception to this, somewhat clandestine procedure'—in fact, I common,d them in their glorious work. But I do think those Indefatigable enthusiasts should have notified visitors to tlie ground where their money was going. PRO BONO PUBLICO.
