DISTRICT NEWS.

TURUA. ANNUAL TENNIS BALL. Coloured paper streamers added to the. beauty-of the TitUua Town Hall last even.ing, when a very large crowd of dancers attended the Tennis Club’s annual ball. Flowers, tennis racquets, tennis nets, and the trophies wo|ll by the club were also u s ed in the decorative scheme:. The music was by the Dixie Boys’ Orchestra, and several extras were played by the Turua Orchestra. Both orchestras were in, good form, and dispensed the newest and brightest dance numbers in lively fashion. Mr F. H. M. Shepherd was M.C., and was assisted by Messrs Callaghan, Madgwick, and Schmidt. During the evening the president, Mr A. H. Rogers, presented silver cups to the winners of the club handicap tournaments. These were received by Miss Elsie Clotworthy on behalf ’of her sister, Mis& M. Clotworthy, who; had won .the ladies’ tournament from well behind scratch ; and by Mr F. C. Robinson, winner o,f the menj’s handicap tournament.

A splendid sit-down supper was served on the st.age by the lady members of the ■ club. The tables were bright with flowers, and were divided in,to sections w’tli ping--pong nets.
