LEGAL OPINIONS.
RESIGNATION OF MB. MARTIN. INSTRUCTIONS TO LOCAL BODIES. A letter was received at last Thursday’s meeting of the Pa.eroa Borough Council from the Municipal Association advising the resignation- of the secretary and legal adviser, Mr T. F. Martin.
It was; stated that pending the appointment of a successor, instructions wore' given tha.t, as from August ■2 and until further notice all applications. for legal advice were to be fcrWardtd to the as ociation’s emergency committee, which would deal with them as it thought fit. The letter pointed out that as all members were nc,t resident in Wellington, cases for opinion could not be: dealt with at short notice, and, in particular, that requests, for. opinions by tele-* gram could not be acced.ed to.
Referring to the information, the ■Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) said it was to be regretted that Mr. Martin had been compelled to retire on account of ill-health. During th,e life of the borough many applications had been made to Mr Martin for advice, and he had given it oheerfully and willingly.
On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. E. A. Porritt, it was resolved to record the appreciation, and thanks of the council for the valuable services rendered', and to forward a letter to that effect to Mn Martin, at the same time conveying good! wishes for hs speedy restoration to, health.
