TURUA TOWN BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Turua Town Board met on Wednesday evening, Mr. J. 'Mules presiding over Messrs J. H. Johnston, J. Schmidt, S. G. Williams, J. T. Davies, J. McConnell, and J. E. Green (clerk). REPAIRS TO ROADS. The clerk reported that a barrel of bitumen’ had Ween obtained and used for patching holes in 'the sealed roads. Good prices had been obtained for the empty barrels sold by auction at the la s t st.Wck sale, and jvith the proceeds anothlejr, barrel of bitumen hadl been secured. The matter of using this bitumen was left to the works committee. CLOSING OF ROADS. The board consented to the closing of Orere Road, and that, part of Raupoti Road north of Piako Road to Rata Street and south of Raratuna Street to the drain, as desired by Messrs Bagnall Bros and C 0... Ltd; These roads are shown on plans but, are not. formed or used. COST OF FOOTPATHS. The clerk reported that the permanent footpath from the post office to the blacksmith’s simp ‘had cost. £lO 4s 4d a chain, including the cost of preparation and clearing the full width. The top-dressing of the path fr,o,m there to tine, Turua Buildings with two coats of ‘cold fix” bitumen had cost £4 4s 9d ‘per chain. Other footpaths had cost from £1 3s 5d to £2 15s 4d per chain, according to the materials and methods used. Valuable information had been gained as a desuit of the various experiments. The total cost of the footpath work was £llB 4s 7d. NEXT ELECTION. The present board will go out of office on. September 19, on which date the biennial election will be held.
