The woman, whose; name was suppressed, was changed later with forgery. The woman’s husband; said he found that a leaf was missing from his cheque book and he informed his banker. This resulted iji the police being informed. After he 'had told Iris wife, of the boy’s condition she had be/ come very agitated and had expregSjed, a keen desjire to see her boy at once. Since the unhappy, or. perhaps happy, day when the staff shirt cuff went out of favour, many Napier business men have been hard put to it to find 1 a satisfactory medium for. recording their necessary notes on business appointments in »iic!h a, way that they would npt be missed (says the “Telegraph”). At lease one prominent, man in the town has splved the problem, however, per medium of a small particle of stamp papen op which he makes a note of anything of which he desires to be reminded, and affixes the paper to his watch glass. Thus every time lie looks at his watch hi s memory functions. The paper is also easily removed from the gfiiss when required to be replaced by a new piece.
The matter of short-weight export butter has bee ; n under consideration by tli© Dairy Control Board for some time, during which it has been confer, riing with Mr. W. M : . S''ngleton;, the Director of tlie Dairy Division, (states a circular issued by the board). Dili'ng tlie season in which pooling was in operation it was; found' that unjteil a standard of 561 b 6oz there was a good deal of trouble with short weights in Great Britain. The Dairy Division lias carried out p, number of experiments. The results of these go to show that if the grocer is to receive 561 b of butter after/ the papeH has been removed the minimum weight, including paper, whbn weighed in New Zealand should, be 561 b 7oz. This would make no allowance for certain butters which seem to shrink more than, others, or £or those butters which are most inclined to adhere to the paper. Under these circumstances it would appear that 561 b Boz should be' the objective.
