PAEROA TROOP’S ANNIVERSARY.

BIRTHDAY EVENING HELD.

In order to fitting,ly commemorate their, second anniversary the Florence Nightingale Ist Paeroa Gird Guides and the Brownie pack h'eld a birthday evening in the Parish Hall on Tuesr d'ay of last week. Th© evening took the form of a concert, and was largely attended by parents and friends, including the Gfiide officers from Wailih

A most enjoyable programme was submitted, and the Brown Owls particular,ly deserve credit for their items, as also does Lieut. E. Hayward, who 'trained the performers.* A humorous sketch contributed by Captain Emmott and' Mrs Barclay was most amus|ing, and delighted the. gathering.

Tlie ladies’ committee arranged a delicious supper, iiielmling birthday calres for the Guides and Brownies. After the caiidles 'had been, lighted by the Waihi officers the local president, Mrs W. Marshall, cut the Guides.’ cake and made a happy speech, during which, she- presented Captain Emmott with a silver; pencil as a birtrday tokeir from the conim’ittec;, Guides, and Brownies. Mrs Emmott perform-: cd the ceremony of cutting the Brown,les’ cake. With a camp-fire ctenemony the happy evening was brought to a conclusion by the visitors receiving a box of sweets made by the Guides.

Tlie programme opened with an enrolment ceremony, followed by a presentation of service Stars to the" Browniefe.
