CANDIDATE FOR HAURAKI
MB. E. L. WALTON TO STAND.
A REPRESENTATIVE DEPUTATION.
•Mr E. L. Walton, barrister pnd solicitor, Ngatoa, and chairman of the Hauraki Plaips County Council, consented to the request of a large deputation of Hpuraki Plains settlers to offer, himself as a candidate in the Reform interest for the new Hauraki electorate. Kaihere, Torehape, Mangatarata, Wait,akar,uru, Pipiroa, RaiVerawe-, HOpai, and Ngatea were represented.
Mr C. W. Parfitt, spokesman, said that the deputation was thoroughly represenat'ive of the Hpuraki end! of the 'electorate, and the ~electors were solidly behind the request, it was felt that Mr' Walton was emineptly suited to the position, and was, in fact, the outstanding man, and one who would receive support from a,ll shades cf political opinions.
In agreeing to the request Mr Walton said that it was o.ne of the proudest mom'ents; of his life when, standing amid the people he, had beep among for eight years, he was, asked to offer himself for Parliamentary honours. It was the knowledge tha.t those around him desired him to stand, and that they would stand solidly behind him, that induced 1 him to agree to the request.
