THAMES VALLEY ARRANGEMENTS. SELECTING THE TEAM. The following dates have been fixed by the executive of the Thames Valiev Rugby Union for the second round of the Frank Poland Memorial Cop : — August 4 : Waihi v. Piako. at Tte Aroha ; Plains v. Paeroa, at PaeroaAugust 18 : Paeroa v. Waihi, at Waihi ; Piako v. Pla’ns, at Ngatea. September 1: Plains v. Waihi, at Wa|ihi ; Paeroa v. piako, al Te Aroha. It is proposed to hold, on September 8, an A and B match at Pajeroa between representAtves selected from the four Thames V.a-lley sub-uniions, w'hen the selectors will make the final selection of- the Thames Valley team to travel to Auckland on September 15 and to Hamilton on September 22. HAURAKI PLAINS GAMES. TO-MORROW’S MATCHES. Great interest is being taken hi the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union’s knockout competition for the De.nt Cup, which will be commenced at Ngajfea to-morrow. The Turua team, yHhlch plays Kerepeehi, was mustered infull strength at a practice yesterday afternoon. The teams for the match are as follows :— Turua. —C. BWklawS, R. Madgwick, J. Catlin, W. Rang! and R. Smith. SCHOOL FOOTBALL. UNION FORMED ON PLAINS. A meeting of Hauraki Plains school teachers, convened by Mr R. C. Abel, Ngatea, was held a,t Nagtea on Wednesday evening to discuss the advisability of forming a School Rugby Union. There were present Messrs R. C. Abel and A. J.’Simpson, Ngatea ; GBoswell, Kerepeehi; T. McKay, Kopuara'hi; a,nd C. Bertelsen, representing the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union. Mr Abel explained that he had accepted/the inv W’iou to attend the annual meeting of the Thames Valley Primary Schools Rugby Union, which body desired the Hauraki Plains school teachers to organise a school uiiion with the idea of affiliating. Affiliation would enable the Plains boys to enter for the Fleming Shield competition and to become eligible for select’on in the team to play for the Northern Roller Mills Shield’. He had explained the difficulties under which the Plains worked and t'he position in regard to travelling to other centres.
Mr Aber suggested that the meeting discuss the advisability of forming a. schools’ union. Even if it did not affiliate with Thames Vplley there was much good that could be done by forming a union to take oven the control from the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union.
Messrs McKay. Boswell, and Bertelsen spoke of the good that- could be done by a schools’ union, and a motion to form a, union was carried. The territory would be the whole of the H.auraki Plains Rugby Union’s district.
As a. basis of discussion on constitution the rules of the Paeroa Schools’ Union, were read. It was decided that the office of president rotate, the vice-president one year to become president, the following year. Mr W. Chappell, headmastler. at Ngatea, was appointed president and Mr G. Boswell, headmaster at Kerepeehi, vice-president. Othea’ officers appointed were : Secretary, Mr, A. JSimpson, Ngatea; selectors, one teacher from each school. . The constitution of the Paerod” Plrmary Schools’ Rugby Union was adopted, with .minor, alterations to suit local conditions. After careful consideirat’on. it was decided to defer entering for the Fleming Shield competition until next year, and not to affiliate with the Thames Va.lley Schools’ Union until next season.
Letters having been received from Tham'es schools asking for 'home and home matches, the secretary was instructed to arrange for these matches at the close of the present campetition, the date suggested for the match at Ngatea being July 28.
