DISTRICT NEWS.
NGATEA. SCHOOL COMMITTEE. The Ngatea District High School Committee held its m'ontihly meeting on Monday evening, Mr C. S. Foster presiding over Messrs R. Cornthwaite, C. Va.gg, W. Wylde, and E. B. Barriball (secretary). The headmaster, Mr W. Chappell, mentioned in his monthly report that the average attendance during the last few weeks had l been seriously affected by the prevalence of influenza and colds. Three teachers had also been ill. The roll numbers were 166 primary a,nd 31 secondary. The need, for a place to house bicycles, saddles and bridlws was pointed out, and* improvements to certain paths were urged, and also repairs to steps;. The repairs were .authorised, and certain members were deputed to look into the matter of providing hoses for flushing a,nd metal for paths. It was decided to approach the Education Board for assistance towards a bicycle shed.
It was decided to again approach the botird with reference to permission to ins,tal water closets :a,nd point out that there was a water supply available and that drainage could be taken to the river.
The Education Board advised t'ha,t its architect had been instructed to report on a means of heating the detached classroom.
Accounts totalling £lO 9s Bdi were passed for, payment
