PAEROA DOMAIN.

MEETING GE BOARD. SUPERINTENDENT’S REPORT. Following a meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council on Thursday night, a meeting, of the local Domain, Board was, held, the chairman (Mr. W- Marshall) presiding. The following report was submitted by the superintendent,, -Mr- W. A. ifentilton :— ”'Since my last report, my time has been -mainly occupied in the usual trimming of hedges and. tirees, and my time now will be’ occupiejd in getting the top-dressing -.and putt'ng it. on the L? different greens. “To get the croquet green in the order that is, wanted I would like you to get me a new machine, as the; old one’ will not do the wol’k properly, and I think 1 can dispose of it, which will help to pay for the new machine. While in Auckland I was looking in the parks at the. machines that are in and 1 found- that they are the Penr sylva,ni.a machines, and I think one of these will do for the croquet gre'en and surroundings. “I am greatly concerned, about the gate in King. Street. Farmers use it regularly every sale day and cross the paddocks. Someone has broken off and taken two padlocks, and now the gate itself has been, broken. I would < suggest putting the gate which I- have from the fence in the bowling green to one side of -the old one, and probably this will remedy the matter. “The following i,s a statement of the time spent,on the various parts of * the doma-in during the past twelve months : Bowling -green, 532 hours ; croquet green, 223% hours ; football fields, 38% hours ; and general work, 1421 hours. Total, 2215. hours.” It was. stated by Mr Brenajij that KL. it appeared that the gate referred .to had been deliberately broken, and that it had been damaged on three separate occasions. The gate had been wired up, which should be sufficient. indication that there was no thoroughfare. ■ The chairman said a notice reading “No Thoroughfare” would not deter a person who wished to go through or damage a gate. A prosecution was the only remedy. It was most unreasonable behaviour, especially as- there was 'a good metalled path through past the fire station, and 1 five other entrances. It w.as agreed to put up a notice, ■and to prosecute offenders without further warning. The report was received, and the question of purchasing a new mower was, left, in the hands of the chainhands of the domain committee (Mr Brenan).
