Following on the-heavy rain which fell during last week-end and on Monday, the Waihou River ‘has been in heavy flood, and h;a.s overflowed its banks at a number, of places between Paeroa and To Arolia. The flood reached its, highest point yesterday, when, from Tirohia to Waitoki, the water rose highef l than ha,s been known siince the big flood >'h 1910. Many of the properties in that locality were completely inundated 1 yesterday, and, some of the settlerp experienced an arduous time in mustering stock and removing them to higher country. In the opin.io.ii of one of the oldest Maoris at Waitoki, Hiriwani, in some parts the water re.se to a greater height than the record flood in 1910. Early yesterday afternoon vehicular traffic between Paeroa and Te 'Aroha Had to be discontinued' on account of the road being flooded in several places. Near. Mr' Wawman’s farm at Waitoki the road was linundated to a depth of nearly four feet for a distance of several chains; WASHOUTS ON LINE. Tile railway line between Waitoki and Mangaiti was, inundated yesterday for nearly a mile, and in three places rather extensive jvasjhouts occurred. Repair gangs were despatched to the scene front Te Aroha and Paeroa, and the Auckland-Taurang.a express was held up at Mangaitii until temporary repairs were effected. About 4.30 p.m. the line was patched up sufficiently to allow the express, to pass safely, and the, train reached Paeroa just on three hours late.
