VETERINARY CLUB.

THE HAURAKI PLAINS BODY. MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The executive, of the Farmers’ Veterinary Club met at Ngatea last evening. .Mr C. W. Schultz presiding over Messrs. E. W. Martin, R. Burke, G. Phillips, W. McCarthy, J. McCraith, and C. A- Gibson (secretary). The surgeon, Mr J. Costello, was in attendance. SURGEON’S REPORT. The surgeon reported that during the month of June he had made 50 visits to 28 members. MEMBERS. Several new members were enrolled, and several settlers, who had failed to s’gn membership forms were charged £2 2s a visit. A PLEASING* REQUEST. The Te Awamutu branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union wrote asking for particulars of the organisation and method of conducting the club, so that the question of forming a similar club in the Te Awamutu district 'could be. Placed before the membersof the union. From a report of a meeting of the Farmers’ Vetei inai J Club which appeared in the Press it sebmed to be in a very healthy condition. It was agreed, to forward ,a copy ot the rules. FINANCE. The secretary reported that only about 40 members had paid their current year’s subscriptions. Almost 70 strongly u\>r,ded memos had recently been sent out, but only .18 members had responded. The opinion was expressed that the club should take strong action to collect its, money. Foi' the past five yeans it had•endeavoured not to hurt the feelings, of any member, but this attitude 'did not pay. Persistent hammering would have to be continued until the club was on a sound financial basis. ASSISTING SURGEON. The’ chairman expressed the opinion that members could ass,lst the surgeon very much during the present busy se’ason and save his time for the benefit of other members by not calling him for trivial cases. Stock requiring treatment should, be brought to the front of the, farm whenever possible, and in this connection any animal that was ailing should be brought to a handy place before it became too bad to conveniently moveIt was decided to circularise member and ask their co-operation on the lines of the discussion. CAR FOR SURGEON. Mr McCarthy expres.sedrthe opinion that the club could not afford: a. new car. for the surgeon, but should endeavour to get a second-hand car. The surgeon, who was- in duty bound, to provide himself with a. car, had offered to permit £5 a month to be deducted from his, salary for a year. <Mr Martin reported' that the old Ford car could be turned in for £l5 if a new car was purchased. The Ngatea gara'ge would also give six months’ free service on a car purchased through them.

Members .discussed the merits of various makes of cars, it being realised that a, new car, was the cheapest proposition in the long rjup. The obstacle was that a deposit of at- least £7O would have to be made op a 'new car.

In the course of the discuss/on Mr Costello agreed to pay for a car at the rate of £5 a m'onth unt'l the full amount was paid off. On this, unclei* standing being reached it was realised that the choice of a ear rested with the surgeon. .

In view of the fact that the club would have to find the deposit, it was agreed that, the club, in consultation with the sprgeop, purchase a new can costing less than . £215, and'that the surgeon’s salary be reduced by £5O a year until the whole purchase' pride was paid off, the car to become the property of Mr Costello when paid for.
