GREAT POLITENESS.

A MAORI RUGBY PLAYER. APOLOGY FOR ROUGH PLAY. BLENHEIM, July 4. Seldom does a Rugby player who has been ordered off the field for rough play admit unreservedly that lie deserved the punishment; more seldom is his apology a model of politeness. Here is the letter, written by a Maori player to -the Pelorus subuhion:—

“I ;a,m overwhelmed with gripf and remorse when I think of my ungentlemanly behaviour, and excessive verbosity during the match. I regret that my hasty action should have jnarred an otherwise amicable'game. I beg to express my contrition for my unseemly actjqn in regard; to my opponent, Mr , and can only suggest that such action was engendered by a misapprehension, and was due to' .an unwitting ebullition of spirit, fos, ter,ed by an assiduously contested game. “In submitting this explanation to your union, 1 trust that my expression of penitence, together with my assurance of unimpeachable future behaviour, will in some small measure influence you to the extent of ameliorating your decision,,, and that your union will extend to me the Christian principles of charity for which it is universally acclaimed.”

The union- decided to extend the Christian principles of cjiaritr.
