BEAUTIFYING SOCIETY.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. NEED FOR ASSISTANCE. A meeting of the committee of tlie Paeroa Beautifying Society was held on Wednesday night, the- president (Mr AV. Marshall) presiding. Mr C. N. O’Neill reported liaving made a canvass of members who were in arrears: with subscriptions, and when ..approached a number had resigned definitely fom the society. As a result it was found that the financial membership was now reduced to twenty-five members. The position revealed came as a shock to the members of the committee, who seiriously considered winding up the affairs of the society. After some discussion it w.as decided to carry on. and l to make a determined, effort to enrol .new members. Tt was decided to contribute all the money the society could muster, amounting to £3O, to the relief of local unemployment fund provided the following programme was carried out as far as tlie money, with tiie subsidy available, would permit : Replanting of 40 liquid amber trees in Victoria, Nahum, and Wood stirectsgrassing tihe bank on the north-west side of the town approach to the traffic bridge over the Ohiiie-muri River; planting and protecting of trees on both sides of upper Normanby Road from the Public Works office to StJoseph’s Convent. It was also resolved to secure a donation of a set of stencil plates for fixing to the various works which have been carried out as a result of the activities of the society, with a view to keepng before the public the great benefit which the society’s work has been to Paeroa.
