THE UNEMPLOYMENT QUESTION.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—The prevalence of this great trouble has been most forcibly brought to my notice, during the past two weeks, and there are quite a number of men in our midst who genuinely need work. The resources of; the borough corporation ar© very limited, but a few hundred pounds have been made available, subject to same receiving a Government subsidy of £ for £ on the labour at relief rates of pay. The work done out of this amount will be entirely additional to that which can be done under the ordinary year’s programme, and' to that extent will make a definite, though small, contribution, to a Teal weed. This cannot, however, fully meet the position. Therefore subscriptions a,re invited to the fund. It is n'ot proposed to make a canvass at present, but. any free-will donations, will be sincerely appreciated and, as fay as is humanly possible, wisely used'. W. MARSHALL
