FOOTBALL.
PAEROA RUGBY UNION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The postponed meeting of the committee of the Paeroa Rugby Uno.n was held last night, the charman (Mr W. P. Pennell) presiding over Messrs M. Crosby. H. Tams, J. Pinder, Et Edwards. E. P. Fathers, Father J. T. ■ Taylor, and D. S. Kerr (secretary). TRAIN TO TAURANGA; The d/strict traffic manager of the N.Z. Railways wrote submitting the times of arrival and departure of traii.t to Tauranga and from Ta,uranga to Paeroa. and; advising that the department regretted that the train could not be delayed as requested. In the event of the Paeroa team requiring to travel by a. train leaving Tauranga about 5 p.m. it would be necessary to run a special tra-’n, and for that service a guarantee of £55 would be required. The chairman said that he had taken the matter up with the local stationmaster in an endeavour to get the guarantee reduced, but without avail. He thought that at least 80 passengers would travel from Paeroa. It was suggested by Mr Pinder that if 80 persons could be relied upon to travel, the uiPon be in a position to find the balance of the guarantee, especially _as the Tauranga union had offered half the gate tak* ings. The chairman, reminded the meet, ing that the prospects of a wet Saturday had to be considered, in the event of which the finances would suffer. After some discussion it was mo/ed by Mr Pinder that the union advise Tauranga that it was regretted that the match could not be entertained on account of the heavy expenses entailed. Jn seconding, -Mr Crosby said that he did not think the finances of the union, combined with the elements to be contended with, could stand the trip being made. The resolution wqs carried. REFEREE FOR SATURDAY. The Thames union wrote submitting th© najnes of Messrs H. G. Brownlee, G. S. Buchan, J. T. Bucnan, R. T. Henderson, and F. Vedder, from which the local fin ion Was asked to select onfe man to referee the Birch Cup match at Paeroa on Saturday. On the motion of Mr Pinder, seconded by Mr Fathers, Mr Brownlee was selected. JUNIOR MATCH WITH THAMES-' An application from the Suburbs junior team for permission to play a friendly match wtith the College Old' Boys at Thames on Saturday was granted. APPLICATION FOR REGRADING. An application for regrading from senior to junior status was received from J. Verran, West club. The applicant stated that as his weight was only 8% stone, he considered he was too light to play senior football, and, on account of his physical conditions •he could n'ot afford to lose time recovering from knocks and bumps. The application was supported by Mrs Verran who wrote that she regretted that she was unable to take the ris-k of her son being injured, especially as he was the mainstay of the home. The chairman said that (he qiiplication came as a, bombshell; Mr Pinder moved tha,t the letter be not received. He contended that the application was an insult to the intelligence of the union, and was the outcome of the regrading of J. Rackham. Mr Fathers pointed out that the applicant was not of the physical ability to play senior football, in view of the home being practically dependent upon him. The cha’rman f said lie. thought that the letter would have to be received. The resolution was seconded by Mr Crosby. • As an amendment Mr Fathers moved that Verran be regraded to junor status unreservedly. The amendment lapsed for want of a seconder, and the resolution was carried. THIRD-GRADE.- MATCH. The chairman reported that he had been approached by a member of the Hauraki Plains Union to try and arran &ea third-grade match, to be played a.s a curta'n-raiser at Paeroa on Saturday. It was decided to accede to the request, and the matter 'of arranging ■details was left in the hands of Mr C. H. Vincent. KARANGAHAKE PLAYERS. ' On the motion of Mr Tams it -was decided to suspend H. McLeod and F. Robinson, of Karangahake, who had played for the Waikino club under the auspices of the Waihi union, until such time as the boundary question was settled between the two upions. GENERAL. I On the motion of the chairman j Father Taylor was appointed manager for Saturday next, and the matter of arranging for the entertainment, of the Thames team was left in his hands, with power to act. The secretary reported that the gate receipts at Paeroa, on Saturday last were 8s 6d. An application, from the East club to have S. Denzies registered as & junior player and allotted to that club was granted. It was resolved that the next meeting of the committee be held on Tuesday, June 26. NGATEA V. AUCKLAND SUBURBSHOME TEAM FOR SATURDAY. A really good game of Rugby should be witnessed at Ngatea on Saturday; when the Auckland Cuburbsi senior' team will play the Ngatea team in return for the match played at Auckland last season. Following Is the Ngatea team:— Killgour, Williams, Reti, Young, McPherson, Nicol, White, Dalgety, Kirkman, McPike; Abel, Martin, Leonard, Peckham, Beasley. Emergency, Hawera.
